An 83-year-old man from Iaşi was sent home by ambulance after being consulted by the surgeon on duty, but the family refused to take him back, UPU-SMURD Iaşi coordinator Diana Cimpoeşu told Agerpres on Monday. On December 23, the old man was kept on a stretcher in the Emergency Unit, fed, and medical personnel tried to find him a place. “Things that no one in the Emergency Department should do. We have nowhere to give it and the family does not receive it, so he spent Christmas with us,” Diana Cimpoeşu said.
According to her, the old man has been married three times and has children from all marriages, but none of them would want to take care of him.
In order to find a place for the old man left in the UPU, the hospital made both telephone and written requests to the Iaşi Social Assistance Directorate, the Iaşi Municipal Police, the Paşcani Hospital – Palliative Care Department, as well as other units. of medical and social assistance. County.
The UPU-SMURD Iaşi coordinator assures that the medical units face several times a year situations in which patients are abandoned by the family in the hospital: “It is not a singular case.
