The Civil Guard arrested seven people accused of stealing more than 270 luxury cars to dismantle them. The criminal group operated nationwide and stole many of the vehicles in broad daylight, taking advantage of the quarantine imposed by the pandemic, according to Heraldo.es.
The detainees in this operation, called “Gran Manzanal”, are of Spanish, Maghreb, Romanian and Paraguayan origin, and the leader of the group is a Spanish businessman who directed legal matters that had nothing to do with the automotive world, according to the Guard . civil.
The gang is accused of crimes of belonging to a criminal organization, vehicle theft, occupation of property, electrical fraud.
During the operation, 64 vehicles and thousands of parts from another 209 cars that had been dismantled were recovered, partially erasing or modifying the elements that allow their monitoring. The Civil Guard estimates that the value of the recovered effects exceeds 2.3 million euros.
Hundreds of luxury cars were stolen from the Madrid area
The investigation began in March, when the Madrid Traffic Sector Research and Analysis Group detected a significant increase in suspicious shipments of spare parts and essentials for vehicles.
It was found that some of these transports were carried out by people with a history of illicit vehicle trafficking, which raised the suspicion that they could rejoin criminal activities. The transports were carried out in trucks and leased trucks using forged waybills and delivery notes issued by companies controlled by the leader of the organization.
The progress of the investigation made it possible to identify a warehouse located in the Madrid town of Fuenlabrada, where numerous state-of-the-art vehicles were found reported as stolen, which were dismantled.
Subsequently, another four warehouses were discovered in the Madrid cities of Parla, Alcobendas, Humanes and Torrejón de Ardoz, where the organization moved the cars once “cooled” in areas far from where they had been stolen.
The area chosen for the robberies was the periphery of Madrid, mainly the southern area (Alcorcón, Pinto, Móstoles, Valdemoro, Leganés and Getafe), but a significant number of robberies are attributed to them in the Toledo municipalities of Illescas and Seseña.

Thefts were committed two or three times a week, mainly during the day, taking advantage of the total quarantine of the population.
The car theft was handled by members of the gang of Romanian origin, who followed the vehicles indicated by the organization’s management. These people, according to the Civil Guard, had specialized technical knowledge in precision mechanics, electronics, automation control systems, including locksmiths who facilitated the opening of cars and the deactivation of the most modern vehicle security systems.
They also had the most innovative electronic devices on the black market to access, modify and modify electronic boards, so that thefts were “clean” and left no trace.
After stealing the vehicle, they parked it in a populated center far from the place of the theft to avoid possible police controls, and after a few days, another group was in charge of moving the car to the warehouses and farms where it was carried out. disassembly and packaging of parts destined for the black market.
