A baby who was born prematurely was abandoned in a bag last night, in front of a block of flats in Sector 3 of Bucharest, when it was 3 degrees outside.
The baby was found nearly frozen by a woman and taken to the hospital by ambulance. He survived and the police are trying to find his mother. Doctors say his story is a Christmas miracle and named him Cristian Ștefan.
When he got to the hospital, the baby was so frozen that doctors couldn’t even take his temperature. They realized that he was born prematurely.
Cătălin Cîrstoveanu, Head of the ATI Neonatology department at Marie Curie Hospital: “He is premature, around 33 weeks. His condition was very critical. Hypothermia, a lower degree means a very high risk of death, only one degree lower and he had an immeasurable temperature.”
The baby, who was brought to the hospital in a cotton bag, in a diaper and wrapped only in a T-shirt, miraculously recovered in just a few hours. Doctors watch him.
Cătălin Cîrstoveanu: “Nutrition is important. It has central lines, we are fine with that, it will grow fast. There are no kidney problems, in the head, in the heart, everything is fine. We will see intestinal tolerance. To this day, he receives milk from the milk bank. “
The Christmas miracle has already received a name: Cristian Ştefan. Cristian because he was born almost at the same time as El Salvador, and Stefan, according to the doctor who was on duty Tuesday night.
Ștefan Manolache, neonatologist at the Marie Curie Hospital: “Excitement! It was like a gift to the others, but unfortunately his parents abandoned him. We’ll see what happens.”
So far, at least four people have offered to baptize him, including the woman who found him last night, on the cold steps of a block in Sector 3 of the Capital.
Paula Stângă, the woman who found him: “My mother-in-law was pregnant and at 7 and a half months she lost the pregnancy, the child and I had to be his godmother and I would have wanted if it were possible, she wants to adopt him, I should continue to be the godmother, and let’s go. Cristian’s name, now it is a holiday. “
The police look for his parents, then the Child Protection Directorate will try to find his relatives up to the third degree. Only if no one in the family wants it, the baby will enter the adoption system. The first time you will probably be taken to a foster caregiver. Then, all families who want to take a child home will be taken into account. In a few months, little Cristian Stefan could be adopted.
The case was taken up by the policemen of the Homicide Service and the prosecutors of the Bucharest Court Deputy Prosecutor’s Office, who are now trying to find the baby’s mother. If you have seen something suspicious or have information about this case, you can call 112 at any time.
