The assailants wanted to get rid of the handcuffs, announcing to the only emergency number that their friend wanted to commit suicide.
The crime took place in a notorious community in Dumbrava commune, Prahova county, on the night of Saturday to Sunday. The victim and her friends organized a party and, in a context of excessive alcohol consumption, got into an argument. The initial reason for discontent was cigarette ash intentionally thrown into a glass filled with drink, according to some sources. The suspect of this gesture managed to escape in a first phase of his party companions, he left the house where the event was organized, but was followed through the streets of the town. He was captured and brutally beaten in the center of the commune. The assailants used batons (slabs broken to one degree), metal objects (chains, some witnesses say) and finally a knife. The man was stabbed in the abdomen, but survived the attack for several minutes. However, he died in an ambulance on the way to the hospital.
The Prahova County Ambulance Service crew was called to Dumbrava to provide assistance to a man who allegedly attempted suicide. This was the message received in the single emergency number 112. However, the doctor who intervened in the case realized that the wound in the abdomen, as well as the rest of the injuries throughout the body, could not have been caused by self-harm and alerted the police.
In a first phase of the investigation, the police took four men to be questioned, without knowing which of them was the perpetrator of the crime. They were about 16, 18 and 20 years old who attended the party. They all denied wrongdoing and suggested that their friend stab himself in the stomach. However, they could not explain how the victim managed to injure his back.
Police eventually arrested a murder suspect, a 20-year-old man, who is believed to have stabbed his friend.
The deceased was the father of two children, one a few months old and the second not even two years old.
