The end of the second semester is postponed and summer vacations are reduced by two weeks

The Minister of Education, Sorin Cîmpeanu, made further clarifications about the change of the school year. Thus, the second semester will end two weeks later, on July 2 instead of June 18, except for eighth and twelfth grades and technical and vocational education. It is about two weeks taken from the students’ summer holidays and added to the spring ones, says the minister.

Sorin Cîmpeanu told Antena 3 that instead of two weeks of online education in April, students could have two weeks of physical presence in May, this being one of the advantages of changing the structure of the school year.

This is an extension of Spring Break for 2 weeks. Until now, the holiday was from April 2 to 11 for Catholics and for Orthodox until May 9. I transferred 2 weeks from summer vacation to spring. Online education in elementary school is hard to imagine. Also in April will be the peak, however other measures will be taken, instead of 2 weeks of online education in April, you can have 2 weeks of physical presence in May. It is frustrating to choose between two options that are not ideal, it is frustrating to balance the summer holidays, it is frustrating to go through this pandemic period, “said the Minister of Education.

Thus, the second semester will end on July 2, instead of June 18, except:

  • Eighth grade students, ending June 25 instead of June 11
  • Seniors ending June 18, instead of June 4
  • Career and technical education ending July 23, instead of July 9.

He also listed some of the advantages of this delay, saying that the Baccalaureate exam will take place on the scheduled dates.

Beyond these two weeks of summer vacation, which moves into the spring, the BAC will take place on the same dates, the National Assessment will begin on July 5. This adaptation of the calendar has the advantage of being able to organize simulations by grades II- There is only one disadvantage, the summer holidays are reduced by two weeks ”, Cîmpeanu also said.

The Baccalaureate exam will take place between June 28 and July 1, and the final results will be shown on July 9, while the National Assessment will take place between July 5 and 8.

Schools remain open at least until April 1

The schools will remain open “at least until April 1,” Cîmpeanu said at Tuesday’s press conference.

“The Ministry of Education will remain consistent with the principle that schools should be closed last, only if necessary. I signed a ministerial order whereby schools close when localities go into quarantine. We would be in an absurd situation if we had terraces , shopping centers and other open places and we will close schools ”, assured the minister.
