For more than three weeks, the water in Lake IOR in the capital has been an unusual red color, and authorities are investigating why this is happening. Bucharest residents who walk through the park are amazed by what they see and seek explanations. Meanwhile, the Environmental Guard announced that a possible polluter has been identified, but controls continue.
The residents of the area pass through the park every day and wonder, with amazement, what could be the causes of this phenomenon.
“We thought it could be some algae developed while it was hot or maybe a substance.” A cleansing substance. It is not toxic because there are many birds in the water. I haven’t seen it and I’ve been in the area for a while, ”confesses a Bucharest resident.
“Either they spilled something or they left,” says one woman.
“I think they are algae, maybe they decomposed,” said another resident of the area.
“It’s red from one end to the other, I’ve never seen it like this,” says another woman.
“The leaves fall into the water and I think that’s where this color comes from,” says another passerby.
Environmental activists say, however, that there are other causes.
Dan Trifu – President of the Eco-Civica Foundation: “Everything that means thick and liquid feces has been discharged and is still being discharged into the lake. Three sources need to be checked urgently! Under no circumstances should the population swallow or leave children behind! It is very dangerous for the man of the lake. The advantage is that it happened in winter, that if it happens with the heat, you will know what is the origin of the infection! We probably had to close the entire park and not allow access. It is clearly delineated the task of the City Council of Sector 3 to identify the source of contamination very quickly ”.
In response to Digi24, the Sector 3 City Council stated that it is currently in the source identification phase and is awaiting the analysis bulletins. In addition, it is mentioned that analyzes of the lake’s ichthyofauna were also requested to determine if it was affected.
The Environmental Guard said a possible polluter had been identified.
“The control is in progress, samples were taken from the IOR lake, the results arrived and indicate a potential contaminant given the results. Absolutely all the factors of the park are involved in the control: the owner of the lake, the owner of the brightness of the water, the operator who ensures the maintenance of the park, as well as other potential factors “, said Andrei Corlan, commissioner of the Environmental Guard of Bucharest.
The representatives of the Environmental Guard also say that once the control is finished, next week measures will be taken and sanctions will be imposed.
