Vacation vouchers issued during 2019-2020 have created more than 45,000 jobs, it is mentioned in a statement sent this Friday by the National Association of Travel Agencies (ANAT).
“The Government should have seen the holiday vouchers as an investment and not as a budget expense, as it is probably one of the most profitable allocations of budget funds. For every leu invested in holiday vouchers, 0.51 bani is found in GDP, and for every 64,000 lei a job is created and maintained (source: ASE and APET study) Making a simple calculation, the holiday vouchers issued in the period 2019-2020 created more than 45,000 jobs. to a large extent guarantee the survival and development of tourism, as well as the preparation of tourism for the receptive, accumulating around 30% of the sales of travel agencies specialized in domestic tourism. In addition, vacation vouchers mean tourism taxed, can be used only in classified accommodation units or authorized travel agencies. “, according to the statement.

The tourism employers’ organization states that the value of vacation vouchers left unused in 2019 and 2020 is four times less than the value announced by the head of government.
“Prime Minister Florin Cîţu has already found an excuse to cut the vouchers, saying that he has extended the validity of the vouchers issued in 2019 and 2020 and that there are currently unconsumed vouchers of about 2.4 billion lei, which can be used at the end 2021. At the same time, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Economy transfer responsibility for centralizing the data, but even the data of the Ministry of Public Finance contradict it, according to which the value of the unused vouchers of 2019 and 2020 does not exceed 700 million lei, almost 4 times less ”, specified in the ANAT statement.
The employers’ organization emphasizes that, unlike Romania, other countries have taken measures to stimulate domestic tourism consumption.
“(…) The government has decided that it should also tighten its belt, thinking of starting with vacation vouchers, an expense considered unnecessary in times of pandemic, when other states take, in turn, tax cuts. And taxes and to stimulate holiday consumption internally, set by issuing vouchers to support this consumption in various ways, from vouchers given to citizens for meals in the restaurant, to holiday vouchers similar to those granted in Romania, to help the sector HORECA and travel agencies “, according to the ANAT statement.
