Joe Biden, the future president of the United States, gave an emotional speech in the state of Delaware, before leaving for Washington to settle in his four-year term in the White House. Biden spoke with emotion of his love for Delaware, the state that adopted him, and visibly cried when he spoke of his son Beau, who died in 2015 after a long battle with cancer.
“Excuse the emotions, when I die, Delaware will be written in my heart. In the hearts of all members of the Biden family. We love you all! You have been with us for better or for worse, you have never left us. I am proud , proud, proud to be a child of Delaware, “said Biden, who will become the 46th US President on Wednesday, inspired by the words of Irish writer James Joyce. At 78, Joe Biden, proud of his Irish origins, he will be the oldest American president to take office.
The speech was delivered at a National Guard base named in memory of his son Beau Biden, a former soldier of this US military organization, according to Agerpres.
“My only regret is that he’s not here,” Biden said, referring to his son Beau, a former Delaware attorney general who died of brain cancer in 2015.
“We should have introduced him as president,” President-elect Biden said, struggling to control his tears.
“I know we are going through dark times, but there is always light,” Joe Biden said in a deeply divided America after four years in office under Donald Trump and the Jan.6 Assault on the Capitol.
Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be sworn in as President and Vice President of the United States on Wednesday, January 20.
