The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu, wrote on Twitter, after the arrest of Alexei Navalny, leader of the Russian opposition, on his return to the country, that the action of the Russian authorities is “unacceptable” and “undemocratic”.
“The arrest of Russia’s opposition leader Navalny on his return to the country after he recovered from Noviciok poisoning is unacceptable. The repression of the opposition, simply because it is the opposition, is simply undemocratic, “Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu wrote on Sunday night.
Russian opposition leader against Putin, Alexei Navalny, returned to Moscow on Sunday, despite Russian authorities announcing that he would be arrested and possibly sentenced to several years in prison.
The plane was redirected and landed at another Moscow airport, Sheremetyevo, although it was scheduled to land at Vnukovo. Supporters of the Russian dissident had gathered there and the police made arrests.
