The Energy Minister spoke to Digi24 about liberalizing the price of electricity. He said that “the automatic transition from the regulated market to the universal service market is not a normal transition. “It is an abuse of a dominant position used by providers.” Furthermore, Minister Virgil Popescu drew attention to the fact that if ANRE cannot liberalize, the Government will intervene.
Virgilio Popescu: This automatic transition from the regulated market to the universal service market is not a normal transition. It is an abuse of dominant position used by providers. They have a base of 6 million customers that they have never paid for. When distribution was privatized, it was distribution, not customers. Now I use them as a monopoly. It can’t stay like this. I cannot have the monopoly of 6 million clients, which I manage as I want. This is not a solution.
I leave ANRE to think, but I said that after January 15, the Government will act, modifying the electricity and natural gas law, to clearly establish how we do this liberalization. If the ANRE is the one that has to regulate this liberalization, it cannot do it, I will make a very clear proposal. I offer to go straight to the cheapest competitive price from the current provider, and if it doesn’t suit them, they can switch. The supplier must understand the customer and offer him the best price, not leave the customer at an expensive price, and wait whether he wants to or not, because man is conservative by nature.
I think this story will end in favor of the people, because the best solution will be found. I think the solution is to offer the lowest price, not pressure people to stand in line, and if they don’t finalize the contract on January 31, they will pay 20% more.
