Cristian Tudor Popescu spoke with Digi24 journalist Adrian Cojocaru about the scandalous discussions between Alexandru Cumpănașu and various students at Tik Tok. The journalist says that the former presidential candidate “knows what he is doing” because he is “a media predator.” However, CTP draws attention and believes that what Cumpănașu does in some discussions can be called “instigation to drop out of school”. The only solution to avoid future situations of this type – considers Cristian Tudor Popescu – “is the open stage discussion” between teachers and parents, in a subject dedicated to the Internet, which is now missing from the school curriculum.
Adrian Cojocaru, Digi24 journalist: Is it correct to talk about the “Alexandru Cumpănașu phenomenon” on Tik Tok? A man who, in a few months, obtained 520,000 likes from the students who follow him, and about 20 million likes for the publications he makes. In a few days, dozens of posts, but one day he ended up uploading more than a hundred videos to his Tik Tok account.
Cristian Tudor Popescu: If we call it as you say – “the Cumpănașu phenomenon”, we will only add to the views, appraisals and posts you mentioned, this is what this character wants.
This man is not crazy. He clearly knows what he’s doing, he’s a media predator.
He sucked everything he could from the murder of Caracal’s two girls, and when the field ended there, because as happens in the media, the case “smoked” -as they say-, now he went to put the horn in other adolescents. They, alive.
What are you doing? He cynically exploits the real weaknesses of the Romanian educational system. There are quite a few teachers who have no human connection with students who get bored, who really despise their students and leave them in a disoriented state, lack of milestones.
CTP: The number of students who follow you is worrying
The number of students who follow him is worrying. I would identify three categories in these 520,000.
I have seen some of those discussions, well, verbal exchanges between the individual in question and the students, and unfortunately I must say that those students, those students are already lost in education. Cumpănașu no longer corrupts them, no longer perverts them. No! I am already in a deplorable state from this point of view. How they got there, we don’t know how much is the parents’ fault, how much is the school’s fault …
Another category to know that there are also students who enter to make fun of that character. I don’t take him seriously, I just make fun of him.
And there is a third category – and this is worrying – they are disoriented students, students without milestones, who, many of them, do not have connections – chemistry, psycho-affective connections – with teachers and parents. These students are prey to the individual in question.
I also heard and saw suggestions from some politicians to ban Tik Tok, this network. No, such a thing cannot be done, and I will never agree to such a thing. And access – in contemporary society – to the media of students, including access by children, cannot be prohibited.
CTP: “Alexandru Cumpănașu incites school dropouts”
Alexandru Cumpănașu incites school dropouts. It is a clear crime! Encouraging school dropouts – “Don’t do your homework”, “don’t listen to what the teacher tells you”, therefore, the police initiated the controls.
Alright, this should be done, not the ban of Tik Tok, but the verification of these clips by the island in question, and if the violation of the law is found, proceed accordingly.
Not all students who log into this account are vulnerable, but many are likely to change their behavior for the worse when they return to school. Because sayings like those of Mr. Cumpănașu, at this age, are easily taken for granted.
I’d be curious … Is this case being openly discussed by students and teachers at school? It’s a case. If there are 500,000 followers, it is a case. They’re talking “Oh kids, what’s up with that guy on the net?” Let’s see, what does it say, what is reality “…
The most important thing, and that in a way marks the rupture of the Romanian school with life, is the non-existence of a course, a discipline in the school, from the fifth grade, if not below, in connection with the Internet.
CTP: The only solution is open-stage discussion, analysis with the students.
The Internet does not exist in school classes. On the dangers of the Internet. What can you find there, what monsters can you find and what consequences can contact with such radioactive areas directly on the Internet. There is much, much more serious than this individual does. This strikes me as surprising, the fact that it doesn’t adjust, doesn’t update, to use English, the real life curriculum.
Cannot ban the network, can not ban children’s access to the network. They need to know, to be told at school. Get on a computer, in class, to access the Cumpănașu account. All the students, with this teacher … “Let’s see what the individual says.”
To enter another account, even terrible accounts, there are some Dark Net, which students keep getting. If we pretend that it does not exist … At the moment, the idea is that the network does not exist. Not for school, not for parents. Parents try to stop their sons and daughters. They try to block your computer, block your access … They won’t, they can’t! They will still come.
And then the only solution is open discussion, analysis with students, I would consider the students mature enough, even at the age of the beginning of high school, to consider them mature enough and to really talk, both teachers and parents, what happens on the Internet.
That is the only way. Otherwise, there will always be individuals who, once lost in the presidency, now attack students in search of votes, in search of accesses, views …
