2021 comes with 15 legal days off for Romanians. It’s just that if we look closely at the calendar, we notice that more than half of them fall on Saturday or Sunday.
In total, however, we will have three holidays: New Years, Easter, and Pentecost. At the European level, Romania is at the bottom of the ranking with the fewest days off for employees.
2021 begins with two days off, but January 2 falls on a Saturday.
And on January 24, the day of the Romanian principalities, it will also be a non-working day, Sunday.
We have no other holidays until April. Good Friday will be April 30.
2021 is again a year in which Orthodox Easter overlaps with May Day. Therefore, Labor Day is celebrated on a Saturday and is followed by the first Orthodox Easter day, that is, Sunday, May 2. The next Easter day, Monday May 3, is also free.
In June of the new year we will have three days of relaxation, of which only two during the week. Children’s Day, Tuesday June 1, will be free. Pentecost, or the Descent of the Holy Spirit, falls on Sunday, June 20. But we will be free on the second day of Pentecost, Monday, June 21.
The next free will be only in August, but also on weekends. The Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary takes place on August 15.
On Tuesday, November 30, Saint Andrew’s Day, we will be free again.
The end of 2021 comes with three days off. Romania’s National Day falls on Wednesday this year. And the first and second days of Christmas will be Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
At the European level, Switzerland is among the states with the most days off: 28. Citizens of Belgium, Lithuania or Cyprus have between 17 and 18 days off per year. Under EU regulations, Romania, in turn, will have to increase the number of days off.
