Florin Cîţu, the prime minister of Romania, arrived with clarifications on the ordinance passed Wednesday at the government meeting on the extension of the bank fee deferral. He said that the deferral of payments could not be postponed for more than 9 months, and people who had already requested a deferral of 9 months could no longer extend the deferral of payments. On the other hand, people who have requested the deferral of loan payments for a period of less than 9 months or those who have not requested it at all, may extend or request the postponement of the payment of installments for a period of up to a maximum of 9 months.
According to data from the National Bank of Romania (BNR), 564,000 companies and individuals requested the deferral of payment of installments, and the total amount amounted to almost 42,000 million lei, that is, almost 15% of the total loans granted by the banks.
“If you had 9 months of deferred rates, you cannot extend it, but others can go up to 9 months, and those who have not postponed the rates so far can request this measure. Applications can be sent to the creditor until March 15, 2021. The conditions remain the same, “said Florin Cîţu.
More than 560.00 people or companies in Romania have asked banks to postpone paying fees in 2020, amid declining revenues as a result of the crisis. The measure was implemented in April.
