President Klaus Iohannis announced on Tuesday that Romania will receive, in less than a week, the first tranche of the 3 million rapid Covid antigen tests ordered. The president also specified that the country’s Intensive Care Units will receive 300 ventilators and approximately 500 oxygen concentrators for patients with Covid in serious condition.

“Just finished a working meeting that I had with Mr. Nicolae Ciucă, Acting Prime Minister as of today, with the Minister of Health and other specialists: Secretary of State Arafat, Dr. Gheorghiță, who is in charge of the campaign vaccination.

There is an absolute need to focus as hard as you can on managing a pandemic. Even if we had options, even if the focus shifted for a few days to something else, the pandemic has not gone away and although we still have a relatively limited number of new infections, we can easily see that, for example, today, I sadly had more than 200 deaths.

Intensive care units are under a lot of pressure, hospitals in general, and we are determined that all these issues continue to be handled well until, of course, a new government is formed that takes over and continues this management.

There is good news in this area. For example, there are around 300 ventilators to be delivered in the next few days and through this, the capacity of the Intensive Care Units will be expanded.
In less than a week the first installment of the 3 million rapid tests that have already been ordered will arrive and, to support patients with more severe forms, some 500 oxygen concentrators are already being installed.

So here we are, we are working fast, we are working to expand the capacity of the hospitals, to be able to receive the sick.

Obviously, our role, that of others, is to continue to protect ourselves, to protect others, to give a chance to doctors, medical personnel, to care for patients with difficult problems.
I will continue to connect with this area and we already have important steps in the preparation of the vaccination campaign, but more on that in the coming days, ”said Klaus Iohannis, at the Cotroceni Palace.
