Images taken as from a horror movie appeared in the public space and show the interior of the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Reșița County Hospital. Dirt, humidity and patients left on the floor. It is the harsh reality of the healthcare system. The hospital director acknowledges that the images are inside the unit and has opened an internal investigation.
The hospital management says that these images show the impotence of the health system and that they include coronavirus patients, who also have mental problems. They are cared for by the same infectious disease medical staff who are not trained in psychiatry and do not have the time to properly care for them.
In addition, this problem is compounded by the shortage of medical personnel at the hospital.
The photos were posted by former coronavirus patients who were hospitalized at this Resita hospital and gave shocking details about how patients are treated.
The photos were taken in the hospital’s infectious diseases department building, separate from the main building, built in the 1950s and unrepaired for 15 years.
DSP Caras Severin will do a check to see in what conditions patients are cared for. At the same time, the director launched an internal investigation.
Manager: “We recognize what is happening in the hospital”
Alina Stancovici, the manager of Reșița Hospital, admitted to Digi24 that she is aware of the situation and acknowledged what is happening at the hospital. He said that he has been in charge for a few weeks and that since September he has notified the Ministry of Health about these problems.
“We know that it is a disaster in the hospital, we recognize what is happening in the hospital. I am the finger pointing manager, who has been in this position for a few weeks, there are old problems. The hospital has billions of debts, no investments have been made for 30 years, the building is from 1957, it is really unhealthy.
On September 20 I went to the Ministry of Health requesting a modular hospital.
In Caras-Severin, until a week ago, there were only two Covid hospitals, Resita and Caras. The pulmonology department where the photos are taken was increased to a maximum capacity of 70 beds in the summer, when I was not a director.
In that section all Covid patients of all categories were taken, regardless of age and pathology, with kidney disease, heart disease, including mental illness. There are categories of patients that must be treated with special care.
Conditions are not the best. We have a small medical staff, half sick, that goes into shifts from morning to afternoon. The same doctors take turns in the guard lines every two days, ”he explained.
The manager said that the captured images were taken before cleaning and that there are deficiencies that he is aware of.
“I face them every day. I am convinced that the same thing happens in all the hospitals in the country.
We opened an internal investigation to see who the patients are, who cared for them, when the photos were taken, we spoke with the staff to identify the situation and take the necessary measures, “said Alina Stancovici.
