President Klaus Iohannis was asked, on Monday, in a press conference organized after the visit to the Emergency Hospital of the University of Bucharest, if he intends to enact the law that stipulates that the agri-food markets remain open during the state of alert .

“The law for the reopening of the markets has not reached me,” said Klaus Iohannis.

TO UPDATE: According to government sources, the government attacked the law in the CCR on Friday, more than two weeks after its approval. Parliament was not informed about the Government’s approach. Thus, even if the law reached Cotroceni, the president is not obliged to promulgate it before the CCR is pronounced.

It’s just that the president doesn’t know what laws he has on the table to enact, or he’s knowingly lying. The Chamber of Deputies adopted, as a decision chamber, on November 10 the Markets Law. On November 12, the normative act was sent to the president for promulgation, according to the website of the Chamber of Deputies. Neither the Government nor any parliamentary group has exercised its right to attack the law in the CCR.

According to art. 77 of the Constitution, the president has 20 days to promulgate the law, attack it in the CCR or send it to Parliament for re-examination.

“During the alert period, closed-loop agri-food markets, fairs, fairs, mixed and air markets, flea markets, as defined in accordance with the provisions of Article 7, paragraph 1, of Government Decision No. 348 / 2004 on the exercise of the trade of commercializing products and services in some public areas, with subsequent modifications and terminations, they will be able to continue their activity, complying with the restrictions on social distancing and health protection measures ”, is shown in the article II of the law.

Klaus Iohannis affirmed, after the approval of the law in Parliament, that the closure of markets in corridors or covered spaces is a “fair” measure taken by the Government. The president accused the PSD in this regard, because he proposed to open the markets for political reasons.
