Europe will face a third wave of the coronavirus pandemic early next year, says David Nabarro, representative of the World Health Organization.
The WHO accuses European governments of failing to take the necessary measures to prevent a second wave in the summer. They haven’t built the necessary infrastructure and now, he says, they run the risk of repeating the same mistakes.
“They did not build the necessary infrastructure in the summer months, after controlling the first wave. Now we have the second wave. If they do not build the necessary infrastructure, we will have a third wave at the beginning of next year, ”Nabarro warned, according to Politico.
On the other hand, the WHO official praises Asian countries for not easing restrictions prematurely and sets the example for South Korea. There, the number of infections remains low due to the mobilization of the population, which wears a protective mask, maintains physical distance and isolates itself at the first sign of the disease.
“They did not build the necessary infrastructure in the summer months, after controlling the first wave. Now we have the second wave. If they do not build the necessary infrastructure, we will have a third wave early next year, ”Nabarro warned.
He also said that Europe has a lot to learn from Asian countries.
“We need to react quickly to the virus, forcefully and decisively. Especially at the beginning, when the virus is still spreading very slowly in different communities. If you react with half measure, the problem will grow very fast,” said the WHO official.
