On Monday, MEP Nicu Ştefănuţă enlisted the help of European Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides to help COVID-19 patients from Sibiu, the county with the highest rate of SARS-CoV-2 infection in Romania.
Sibiu has a contagion rate of 8.32 per thousand inhabitants, according to the report sent this Sunday by the Strategic Communication Group.
Nicu Ştefănuţă specified, for Agerpres, that a few days ago he also wrote to the Minister of Health, Nelu Tătaru, in order to activate the European mechanisms for the transfer of patients with COVID-19.
“I wrote to the Minister of Health on Wednesday to beg him to activate the European mechanisms at his disposal. We are talking about: intra-European transfer of patients where they are working at full capacity. It is not possible that patients from Belgium will be transferred to Germany and that we die upside down because we are ashamed to ask for it or we are incompetent to do so. Today I contacted the European Health Commissioner about an even more serious problem: the oxygen station, which the county hospital desperately needs. The EU has a mechanism for endowments exchange, the EU Clearing House, and we must achieve it with the help of a hospital in Europe, nearby, so that it reaches the sick in time. I will follow these steps and people like because the greatest drama of the recent history of Sibiu ”, said the Sibiu MEP.
Nicu Ştefănuţă (USR PLUS) is a member of the Public Health and Environment Committee of the European Parliament.
Doctors at the SCJU in Sibiu are requesting an emergency oxygen station to provide the oxygen needed by COVID-19 patients. The Sibiu unit has a single oxygen station, which does not cope with the growing number of patients infected by the new coronavirus.
The management of the hospital and that of the Provincial Council hope that the new oxygen station will arrive in Sibiu on Tuesday, which is rented from a company that imports it from Turkey, said the director of the medical unit, Liliana Coldea the other day.
At the County Emergency Clinic Hospital in Sibiu, the majority of COVID-19 patients across the county receive daily treatment.
