The chief physician of the Emergency Reception Unit (UPU) of the largest public hospital in Sibiu County, where the majority of COVID-19 patients are treated, has resigned. Sibiu County has the highest infection rate per thousand inhabitants in Romania: 7.19, compared to the lack of places in ATI, and the authorities are taking into account the quarantine of Sibiu.

Dr. Constantin Roşca, who will be appointed acting chief, also held this position, but refused to extend his mandate. He also has experience at UPU Sibiu.

SCJU UPU is the primary place where most patients go from all over Sibiu County, especially those with or suspected COVID-19. In recent days, there have been more than 300 patients in need of medical attention, many of them with symptoms of COVID-19.

So many people come to UPU Sibiu that it was necessary to take a kiosk and containers to the hospital courtyard to transform them into waiting rooms. In addition, there are even COVID-19 patients hospitalized in wards arranged in a container located near UPU Sibiu.

The representatives of the Prefecture said this Wednesday that in Sibiu county hospitals there is no free place in ATI for adults infected with the new coronavirus, only in the Pediatric Clinical Hospital there are four free beds in ATI for cases of children with COVID-19 .

In all Sibiu County hospitals, there are currently only 24 places in ATI for all COVID-19 patients, most of which are in the County Emergency Clinical Hospital (12), five in the Emergency Hospital Military and Pediatric Clinical Hospital located in Sibiu and two places in Mediaş Municipal Hospital, Sibiu Prefecture spokesperson Andreea Ştefan told Agerpres.

DSP Sibiu performed a risk analysis and submitted it to the National Center for Public Health for approval. DSP Sibiu’s proposal speaks of the quarantine of the Sibiu municipality, of the Şelimbăr commune, practically attached to the county seat municipality, but also of the cities of Tălmaciu and Cisnădie. On Wednesday, the city of Sibiu had a cumulative incidence of 11.18 cases of coronavirus per thousand inhabitants.

A decision on this will be made on Friday when a meeting of the Sibiu County Emergency Situations Committee is held, in the presence of DSU chief Raed Arafat.

Sibiu is the county with the highest infection rate in Romania, with more than 7 per thousand inhabitants, according to official data on Wednesday.
