Hundreds of protesters gathered near the White House in Black Lives Matter Plaza after authorities closed off a large part of the area before election night.
The Shut Down DC protest group said it was preparing for clashes with authorities if police used violence.
A fence has been erected around the White House to block access to the complex, and 250 National Guard soldiers have been deployed to intervene if necessary.
Not only in the capital there are riots. The Los Angeles Police Department said it had issued a “city-wide tactical alert” to ensure sufficient resources were available in the event of “any incident resulting from Election Day activities.”
The New York Police Department (NYPD) is also preparing for a possible escalation of protests in the days and weeks following the presidential election, NBC News reported.
The NYPD anticipated that the protests could last until early next year.
