Prime Minister Ludovic Orban said at the beginning of the government meeting on Wednesday that the situation of hospitals in Bucharest must be resolved urgently, so he will discuss, on Thursday, with the new mayor of the Capital, Nicusor Dan, immediately after taking the oath. an operational decision is made. According to the prime minister, the Bucharest Hospital and Medical Services Administration (ASSMB) refuses to provide new beds for Covid-19 patients. In other news, the Health Minister said he would increase the testing capacity to 50,000 tests per day.

Orban said that in Bucharest, Ilfov and Witing hospitals do not treat. There are only six beds in the 16-bed Witing. The same situation occurs in Ilfov and Colentina. “All of them must work at capacity, the intensive care units, in addition, all beds that have access to oxygen must be used and for intermediate cases, which do not necessarily require immediate treatment. You have to think about them quickly,” said the prime minister. .

He specified that he will discuss with Nicusor Dan on Thursday. “An operation must be performed and some decisions related to Bucharest must be made, we have 35 hospitals in Bucharest, we cannot stay to move patients from Bucharest because the ASSMB director does not want to support us in the preparation and increase of treatment capacity. Here we have to solve Bucharest and Malaxa and all the other structures that we think of in the anti-COVID combat device. In Pipera we have to increase the capacity, there are 500 beds and about 100 work ”, says the prime minister.

According to him, they do not work because they are not equipped with oxygen devices. “You have to introduce oxygen, what is such a great philosophy?” Continued the prime minister.

“If there is an increase in the number of cases, you have to adapt, put into operation immediately, according to the plan, new intensive care units or increase the capacity in the intensive care units. We also discussed in Balş and Babeş, where there is “The DSP must immediately approve any request to increase treatment capacity,” Orban addressed the Minister of Health, Nelu Tătaru, with the ability to put new beds into operation.

He demanded that beds be prepared for each region that can be operational in a very short time, in 48 hours, a maximum of 72 hours.

In turn, Raed Arafat said that the ventilation capacity is increased, that ventilators were distributed at the Pantelimon Hospital, University Hospital and Floreasca Hospital.

Arafat also said that 43,000 antigen-based rapid tests were contracted, arriving in Romania, and one million tests were provided for strategic stocks.

The prime minister also called for increased testing capacity. Nelu Tătaru stated that there are 141 test points, and on Thursday morning there are still 18 points, and there will be 50,000 tests per day.

In the Prime Minister’s opinion, compared to other European countries, Romania is in a better situation, but more attention is needed. “As you can see, Europe is facing a dramatic increase in the number of coronavirus infections. Of course, the situation compared to most of the European Union countries could give us some satisfaction. On the other hand, I confess that we must be even more careful and vigilant in all of our actions in the coming period in the battle against COVID-19, ”Orban said.

He said that many countries are facing an almost inexplicable increase in the number of cases and many countries are taking restrictions as in the first wave. “Our goal must be to stop at all costs the increase in the number of cases, obviously, keeping the economy in a functioning state without affecting economic activity, without endangering the employment of Romanian citizens, but at the same time implementing with firm all the decisions we have made, ”Orban also stated.
