Pelé’s message for Cristiano Ronaldo
At 35, Ronaldo achieved a “double” against the Swedes, reaching 101 goals scored with the national team’s jersey. He was close to just eight goals from the all-time record held by Ali Daei, who retired in 2007 after scoring 109 goals for the Iranian national team.
“I thought we were going to celebrate 100 goals today. But it was 101! Congratulations, Cristiano, for every goal you reach on your way.”, Pelé wrote on his Twitter account, after the Stockholm game, reports Agerpres.

Cristiano Ronaldo is ahead of illustrious names in the world’s top all-time scorers, including Pelé, with 77 goals for the Brazilian team, or Ronaldo Nazario de Lima, another famous Brazilian, who finished his career with 62 goals in the shirt of the selected “Canarinha”.
With a total of 1,283 goals and three world titles won during his career, “King” Pelé has never hidden his admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo, whom he considers the best player in the world in action.
The Portuguese star declared “very happy” at the end of the game with Sweden, both for the victory of the national team and for his record of goals, after becoming the first footballer in the history of European football to reach the barrier of 100 international goals.
