The president of the Czech Senate, Milos Vystrcil, will pay a “high price” for his official visit to Taiwan, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned on Monday. The Czech official rejected the threat, stating that he did not want a political confrontation, reports dpa and Reuters, assumed by Agerpres.
The Beijing Foreign Minister said Milos Vystrcil’s visit to Taiwan to promote trade ties between the Czech Republic and Taiwan was a “challenge.”
“The Chinese government and people will never forget and keep silent and watch, and they (Vystrcil – nr.) Must pay a high price for their brusque behavior and political speculation,” Wang said in a statement. the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China.
China considers Taiwan a separatist province and prohibits other countries from having official ties with it, the dpa notes. China’s policy towards Taiwan is known as the “one-China principle.”
“Challenging the one-China principle on the Taiwan issue means becoming the enemy of the 1.4 billion Chinese citizens and an act of international breach of trust,” Wang added.
Vystricil is the highest-ranking Czech official to visit Taiwan so far. He arrived in Taipei on Sunday with the Mayor of Prague, Zdenek Hrib, and a delegation of Czech businessmen for a six-day visit.
The president of the Czech Senate said in a statement that Wang’s remarks were an intrusion into the internal affairs of the Czech Republic.
“We are a free country that is trying to have good relations with all states, and I think that will be the case in the future regardless of the Chinese minister’s statement. And I want to repeat that this visit is not intended to be a political confrontation.” he said.
