The first month of autumn maintains many of the characteristics of the end of summer, the climate being warm, at least in the first two decades, and rainfall will be quantitatively lower than those registered in the summer months, according to the ANM forecast for September, writes Agerpres.

The values of the monthly average temperatures register a rather small decrease compared to the last month of summer, August, to which the shorter period of sunshine and the longer and cooler nights contribute. In addition, September is a less unstable month, due to the persistence in most of Europe, of a belt of relatively high atmospheric pressure, linking the Azores Anticyclone with the barometric maximum of Eastern Europe, say specialists from the NMA.

Based on the data recorded in the period 1961-2019 in the meteorological stations of the National Meteorological Administration network, it is found that the multiannual average temperature in September exceeds 18 degrees Celsius only in the Danube meadow, on the coast and in isolation, in the Danube delta and southwest of Banat. In the Romanian plain, in the mountainous areas of Oltenia and Muntenia, in Dobrogea, the western plain, in eastern and southern Moldova, the air temperature averages are between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius More moderate values, between 12 and 16 degrees Celsius, are characteristic of Transylvania, the western hills, Maramureş, Moldova and the sub-Carpathians, “shows the ANM forecast.

Average temperatures between 8 and 12 degrees Celsius are characteristic in the intramontane depressions and in the low mountain area (below 1500 meters), and in the highest mountain areas (above 1500 meters) these values decrease up to 4 – 8 degrees Celsius, while Vf. Omu just below 3 degrees Celsius.

According to meteorologists, the absolute monthly maximum temperature in Romania, recorded in meteorological stations, is 43.5 degrees Celsius, in Strehaia, on September 8, 1946. The absolute maximum in Bucharest was 39.6 degrees Celsius, recorded September 9. 1946, at the Bucharest-Filaret meteorological station. At the Bucharest-Băneasa meteorological station, the absolute maximum for September was also recorded in September 1946, on two consecutive days, on September 8 and 9 and has the value of 38.6 degrees Celsius, and at the Bucharest meteorological station- Afumaţi, the absolute maximum of the month. September is 37 degrees, recorded on September 1, 1952.

“Over time, there have been years when September has been particularly warm. In 2015, the absolute maximum temperature was recorded in 65 weather stations, most of the values exceeded 33 degrees Celsius, most on rainy days. On September 1, 2, 18 and 19, and in 1949, in 47 weather stations, on September 7, 8 and 9, most exceeding 35 degrees Celsius, and in 1986 and 1987 absolute maximums of 22 degrees were recorded . , respectively 33 meteorological stations ”, is shown in the meteorological analysis carried out by the ANM for September.

On the other hand, the absolute minimum temperature for September falls below zero degrees Celsius in almost all weather stations. Thus, the absolute minimum temperature this month in the country is -15 degrees, recorded at Omu Peak, on September 28, 1935.

The Bucharest, the absolute minimum temperature is -3.1 degrees Celsius and was recorded at the Bucharest-Băneasa meteorological station on September 30, 1977. On the same day, the absolute minimum was recorded at the Bucharest-Afumaţi meteorological station, respectively -2 , 4 degrees. At the Bcureşti-Filaret meteorological station, the absolute minimum is -1.6 degrees and was recorded on September 28, 1906.

Most of the absolute minimums were recorded in 1977, on September 29 and 30, at 109 meteorological stations. The year 1970 was also characterized by a very cold September, registering absolute minimums in 44 meteorological stations, on September 29 and 30, according to meteorologists.

As for rainfall in September, they are less in quantity, on average, than in the summer months, but the instability is more pronounced. Thus, from the data recorded in the period 1961-2019, in the meteorological stations of the National Meteorological Administration network, it is found that the multiannual monthly averages of precipitation are between 30 and 50 mm in large areas of the Romanian plain. , in Dobrogea, in most of Moldavia, in the western plain and partly in western Transylvania, but also in the intramontane depressions. “Amounts less than 30 mm are characteristic of small areas in the Danube delta and northwestern Transylvania. Values between 50 and 75 mm are recorded in the subcarpathies, in most of Transylvania, in the western hills, Maramureş and Bucovina, but also in the center In Moldova, more than 75 mm are recorded in the mountainous area, and can exceed 100 mm in the mountainous areas of the west of the Southern Mountains, but also at altitudes above 2000 meters ”, says the ANM report.

The maximum absolute monthly precipitation recorded at the meteorological stations in Romania is 434.7 mm in Piatra Neamţ, in 1912. In Bucharest, the total monthly maximum, absolute maximum, is 316.5 mm and was recorded in September 2005, at Bucharest-Filaret Weather Station. In the same year, the absolute maxima were also recorded in Bucharest-Afumaţi (287.1 mm) and Bucharest-Băneasa (269.6 mm). 1978, 2001, 2005 are examples of years in which September was characterized by heavy rains with absolute maximum values of monthly precipitation.

The absolute maximum amount of monthly precipitation that fell in 24 hours, in the meteorological stations, is 161.4 mm and was recorded in Bucharest-Filaret, on September 20, 2005. The absolute maximum values were also recorded on the same day. quantity. of precipitation falling in 24 hours, in September, and in the meteorological stations Bucharest-Afumaţi, 152.3 mm, respectively Bucharest-Băneasa, 126.4 mm.
