The Ministry of Justice proposes the establishment, within the National Anticorruption Directorate, of the Support Structure for the European prosecutors delegated to Romania.
The Ministry of Justice has publicly debated the bill that establishes measures for the application of Council Regulation (EU) 2017 / 1,939, of October 12, 2017, which implements a form of enhanced cooperation for the establishment of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office ( EPPO))

“The project proposes the establishment within the National Anticorruption Directorate of the Support Structure of the European Prosecutors delegated to Romania, made up of specialized auxiliary personnel, led by a Chief Secretary, to work with a maximum of 10 positions. DNA will provide personnel from support for the daily work of the European Delegated Prosecutors “, indicates the explanatory memorandum of the project.
At the same time, the project stipulates the obligation of all prosecutor’s offices in Romania to provide European prosecutors with judicial police officers, specialists and logistics necessary for the optimal development of activities for the discovery and prosecution of crimes under the jurisdiction of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office. This obligation applies to any structure, either general or special, of the prosecution or the police.

The European Public Prosecutor’s Office is an EU structure created in April 2017, based on the enhanced cooperation procedure, in which only those Member States that wish to participate participate. Currently, there are 22 participating Member States, including Romania, according to the website www.consilium.europa.eu.
The role of this structure is to work more closely on the investigation and prosecution of crimes that affect the EU budget, such as fraud, corruption, money laundering and cross-border VAT fraud.

The European Public Prosecutor’s Office will carry out cross-border investigations in cases of fraud with EU funds of more than € 10,000 or in cases of cross-border VAT fraud involving damages of more than € 10 million.
The European Public Prosecutor’s Office has a central and decentralized level. The central level is represented by a central prosecutor’s office located at the headquarters of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, consisting of the college, the permanent chambers, the European Chief Prosecutor, the Deputy Chief Prosecutor for Europe, the European Prosecutors and the Administrative Director. The decentralized level is made up of European prosecutors delegated to the Member States.
