Ion Cristoiu presents a letter from family doctors to the authorities shortly after declaring the state of emergency in which they demanded the solution of some urgent problems of the union, among which are the provision of protective equipment and materials. The letter published on the organization’s website caught the attention of the Ombudsman, Renate Weber, who asked them for details on the status of compliance with these requests. The response of the family doctors sent to the Ombudsman shows that no request had been resolved.
The journalist points out that, in a dialogue about Christ TV, Sandra Alexiu, president of the Association of Family Doctors Bucharest-Ilfov, told her that even at the time of the discussion, on May 7, 2020, her wishes were not fulfilled. Sandra Alexiu also said that family doctors ended up in a dramatic situation due to the epidemic: they had to buy their own protection materials, the number of patients decreased significantly, as well as the profits of those who maintain their offices.
We fully present the editorial published on cristoiublog.ro:
“My guest on Thursday May 7, 2020 at cristoiuTv was Sandra Alexiu, president of the Association of Family Physicians of Bucharest-Ilfov. Sandra Alexiu is a healthy example of a doctor in Romania after December. She has been the director of the Bucharest Association since 2006. At first she was secretary of the Association and then, in 2015, president. However, Sandra Alexiu did not temporarily leave the position of family doctor in Jilava, Ilfov, which she has held since 1994, for 26 years, that is.
The main theme of the hour-long dialogue could not be other than the situation of family doctors in Bucharest and in the country during the state of emergency. I wanted to discuss this and did the necessary due diligence (through Maria Ţoghină, although later I realized that I had the doctor’s number on my agenda, from the moment I interviewed one of my shows on a television station that he didn’t have). I still remember) for being my guest on cristoiutv (by the way, the post reached 10,000 subscribers on YouToube!) After reading a document. A document that was not reported in the press, either because, in the two months of the Pandemic, the only doctors in the care of journalists were those who were at the forefront of the fight against the Virus, although some of them They did not enter the fire for the simple reason that many hospitals prepared to leave common hospitals have been and are empty. Some will say that this is as it should be. But if we think about it, the transformation of common hospitals into hospitals that unnecessarily wait for patients with Coronavirus has cost the Romanian state and especially Romanian patients. In the two months of fighting the pandemic, if you were unlucky enough to have a heart attack, no one would notice you. They asked him if he did not have a heart attack due to Coronavirus and if he said yes, they would take him to the media and take him to one of the hospitals without patients.
The document that caught my attention is the response of the Bucharest-Ilfov Family Physicians Association to the address of April 13, 2020, by which the Ombudsman was notified. On March 15, 2020, the AMFB published an open letter on the website, addressed to medical decision makers, requesting the resolution of twelve problems that family doctors face during the state of emergency. The most important was point one:
.
It is noteworthy the excellent performance of Renata Weber in the position of Ombudsman. He notified himself after a letter posted by AMFB on its website. A letter addressed to decision makers in the medical field and not to the Ombudsman. The Ombudsman is above all the defender of fundamental human rights. He did it brilliantly during the state of emergency, risking suburban attacks by politicians, such as the one launched by Rareş Bogdan, the first vice president of the ruling party. The intervention in the case of family doctors is part of this tireless fight for individual liberties questioned by the Klaus Iohannis regime in the name of fighting against the new class enemy, the Coronavirus.
The Ombudsman asked the AMFB to communicate. The serious institution AMFB answered “the point for each of our requests in said open letter.” Therefore, the document reviews web requests followed by the status of the solution. Of the 12 problems, none were resolved. The first and most important question raised by the document on the web was the following in the response given to the Ombudsman:
Noting that several boxes of masks were received as donations from private companies, the response read:
We have not received any offers to buy such materials at specific prices, and our attempt to equip ourselves has been hit by the lack of these materials in warehouses or suppliers or the redirection of all their supplies to hospitals.>
The dialogue took place on Thursday, May 7, 2020. Almost two months have passed since the Web Letter. I asked Sandra Alexiu if so far the decision makers have complied with the requests of the family doctors. No, they had not given up. Therefore, family doctors were forced to buy (obviously with great difficulty) the necessary equipment for office visits during the pandemic with their money. Sandra Alexiu revealed to me that family doctors are on the ground after a two-month emergency. Due to the pandemic, the number of patients has decreased significantly. As a result, cabinet profits have decreased dramatically.
I was and am a great advocate for family doctors. I said and wrote whenever possible that family doctors are the most important doctors in Romania due to the fact that any patient should go to them first. Under this sign on Thursday May 7, 2020, I discussed with Sandra Alexiu the problems of family doctors, one of the most important is the absence of digitization in the System. When I finished the discussion on this topic, I realized that I knew the answers of the interlocutor. I had received them a decade ago, when I interviewed her about family doctor problems at the time. Even now they had not been resolved. I am sure that if I do an interview with Sandra Alexiu in 10 years about the problems of family doctors, the answers will be those of May 7, 2020 ”.
