Samsung Health Monitor measures your blood pressure
Samsung’s blood pressure measurement app on your smart watch has been approved for use by the South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.
Named Samsung Health Monitor, the app will be available on the Galaxy Watch Active 2 in the third quarter, according to Samsung.

The South Korean manufacturer says the smart watch should be calibrated with a traditional cuff used to measure blood pressure. However, users will not have to wear the bracelet permanently, but can simply touch the smart watch while wearing it to measure their blood pressure.
How the application works
The measurement is performed by analyzing the pulse of the heart rate monitoring sensors. The software then analyzes the relationship between any changes in blood pressure and the calibration value to determine the blood pressure level.
Users should calibrate their device with the bracelet at least once every four weeks. This specification comes for precision purposes, Samsung added.
The ministry says the Samsung app meets all the criteria for an automatic blood pressure meter.
In February, the ministry revised the safety guide for mobile applications for medical use. Thus, it allowed apps to be verified separately from physical devices like smartphones and tablets.
Since the review, 35 requests for medical use have been approved. Most of these were for CT and radiography analysis.
Samsung is also working in various fields to encourage digital healthcare companies. These include the development of the Samsung Medical Center in conjunction with local telecommunications company KT. Use 5G networks for digital diagnostics.
