Former soccer player Valentin Podean, who played for Politehnica Timişoara in the season of the showdown with Real Madrid in 1992, passed away at the age of 49. He was killed by the coronavirus, writes ProSport.

Podean, who also played for Lujog Eagles, Venus Lugoj, and Bega Belinţ, suffered from diabetes and was on dialysis.

According to the local publication Redeşteptarea, Valentin Podean was infected in the hospital, where he was going to receive dialysis.

Twenty people died in Timiş County from the coronavirus, Valentin Podean was the second youngest man to die from the virus, after a 45-year-old man from Liebling.
