The bodies of five children were found in an apartment in the city of Solingen, in western Germany, according to German police cited by the BBC.
They did not say what caused the children to die. They only specified that the emergency services were called on Thursday in the Hasseldelle neighborhood block.
Police treat the incident as a criminal act, according to the BBC.
According to unconfirmed information published by the German news site Bild, the five children were between one and eight years old. It appears that a sixth child, aged 11, would have survived.
Grandma is the one who called the police.
Police did not give details about the children’s parents, although there are unconfirmed reports that the 27-year-old mother tried to commit suicide at a Dusseldorf train station by throwing herself in front of a train. The woman is now in the hospital.
“It just came to our attention then. The mother needs to be questioned,” a local police officer told Bild.
