The government discussed on Thursday, in first reading, a draft emergency ordinance that stipulates, among other things, that medical students who sign up as volunteers to assist medical personnel in caring for COVID-19 patients will benefit from Premiums of 2,500 lei per month, announced the Secretary of State in the Interior Ministry, Raed Arafat, reports Agerpres.

Regarding the GEO of new health measures to prevent and combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, which was in first reading, the ordinance provides for the granting of the right of temporary free practice to medical graduates, resident doctors, regardless of the year of training in residence, during the situation we are facing with SARS-CoV-2, so that they can work under supervision in hospitals and assist in the wards where patients suffering from COVID-19 are treated, ”said Arafat, after government meeting.

He said that the draft ordinance also provides for the organization of a volunteer program in collaboration with the rectors of medical universities in which “students can participate in the process of caring for the sick, based on the recruitment of volunteers.”

Students will sign volunteer contracts with the provinces for emergency situations in the provinces where they will be assigned and will work in the health units of the respective provinces under the coordination of a person designated by the health unit.

“Each month an activity of approximately 120 hours is planned, and at the end of each month, the student will receive a prize in the amount of 2,500 lei. In addition, those who will be in locations other than the university centers where they study or the places of residence or residence will receive a daily allowance, plus accommodation and free meals from the authorities or the health unit where they will work ”, said Arafat.

According to the head of DSU, these measures are “extremely important” to increase the capacity of the system.

The students will help, as an average staff, we will work with nurses, with doctors and we aim, in a first phase, from a nursery, that is, from 20,000 possible volunteers, the recruitment of approximately 3,000 volunteers, in collaboration with universities. “Raed Arafat added.

He also said that the draft ordinance also provides for the Ministry of Defense to participate and support in the implementation of the anti-COVID-19 vaccination campaign, when it will begin.
