Ricky Gervais reflected on his controversial Golden Globes speech that rocked and criticized many of Hollywood’s elite.
Gervais crashed into the stars that attended the 77th Annual Golden Globe Awards when he hosted in January. At the time, his pranks lecturing the stars for their ties to controversial people and companies and using their time on stage to make political statements that clearly resonated with viewers, going viral almost immediately.
“It was quite zeitgeisty,” he told Yahoo Entertainment. “I guess because people were tired of being taught by billionaires to recycle when they were flying in private jets. So I think people were tired of hypocrisy. “

He told the store that although his words were harsh, he himself does not necessarily believe everything he says when he takes a stance on stage. It just leans in favor of the best joke.

“I often take a completely opposite stance than I really believe if the joke improves. I will pretend to be right, left or non-wing! It depends on the joke, “she explained.
Gervais also addressed Tom Hanks’ viral reaction to a joke in his speech. Viewers quickly realized that it seemed that Hanks was not happy with a joke the host made about Felicity Huffman, who had recently finished a season in prison for her role in the college admission scandal.
“I came here in a limo tonight and the plaque was made by Felicity Huffman,” said Gervais. “It is your daughter that I feel sorry for. That must be the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to her, and her father was in ‘Wild Hogs.’ “
Speaking to Yahoo, the star said he doesn’t think Hanks is really upset.
“I don’t think he was against what he was saying,” he said. “I think he thought, ‘Oh, this is kind of hot. It’s okay?'”

He noted that he has not spoken to Hanks since that night, when the actor accepted the coveted Cecil B. DeMille Award from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. However, Gervais made sure to highlight how much the public loved it when he hit Leonardo DiCaprio that made the actor laugh.

The joke in question saw the creator of “The Office” tease DiCaprio’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” for three hours.
“Leonardo DiCaprio attended the premiere and, in the end, his date was too old for him,” said Gervais.
