“There is widespread and widespread viral spread of the community,” the report read, according to the newspaper.
“There is no significant improvement in the Atlanta metro area, with persistently high levels of new cases on a plateau. Mitigation efforts must increase.”
The task force recommended a statewide mask mandate, closing nightclubs, bars and gyms in suburban counties, restricting restaurants to a quarter of capacity, and raising tests and tracking of contacts, according to the newspaper article.
“Current mitigation efforts do not have sufficient impact and would strongly recommend a statewide mask mandate,” the report reads.
Georgia’s spread rate remained almost double the national average, the task force said in the report.
CNN reached out to the White House and the task force, but in the past they have repeatedly refused to make these reports public.
The White House report examined data from August 1 to 7 and was a follow-up to one dated July 26 that marked Georgia as one of 21 states in the “red zone.” The new assessment found that Georgia’s business rate had dropped slightly, but new business growth and the numbers that tested positive for the virus still put Georgia in the red zone.
The office of Georg Gov. Brian Kemp remains confident in data and advice from the state health commissioner and said, “This fight is about protecting the lives – and livelihoods – of all Georgians,” it said in a statement to CNN .

Georgia has the highest average of seven days of new cases per 100,000 people with 31.99, according to Johns Hopkins University.
The department also reported 83 new deaths from coronavirus, bringing the total to 4,538 in the state. The state reported 136 deaths Tuesday, the most in one day, and another 109 deaths Wednesday.
