The Baltimore Ravens will reportly release Earl Thomas as safety trader as a result of an altercation with a teammate at the practice, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Schefter notes that Dallas Cowboys are the favorites to land Thomas if he is cut by Baltimore.
The NFL Network Ian Rapoport reported the San Francisco 49ers and Houston Texans are also teams to watch when it comes to Thomas.
Thomas was sent home from practice Friday after a fight with fellow security guard Chuck Clark, per Tom Peliserro of NFL Network. he was told to stay home Saturday despite the team rehearsing.
The veteran tried to explain his side of the story on Instagram, noting that the confrontation was a result of busted coverage during the practice:
Head coach John Harbaugh was overwhelmed by the scale of the fight, via Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk:
“It just took longer than it was necessary for me. You’ll have these things in training camp. I think your temps will flare up, sure. It happens every training camp, especially right now, probably. But I do not like them. if they expand like that and eat into our reps, and we’ll have to figure out why and make sure that does not happen. “
De team leadership made their voices heard by telling the organization “they would prefer that Thomas not be in the neighborhood, “per Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports. La Canfora teammates added “strongly support “Clark in this scenario.
Although Thomas was signed until 2022 with $ 10 million fully guaranteed salary by 2020, his guarantee could be canceled for conduct that was harmful to the team, per Florio.
Baltimore also have depth on the position with second-year player DeShon Elliott, while free agent Tony Jefferson could also be an option after spending time with the team last season.
Thomas is still an elite player when he is on the field. He earned his seventh Pro Bowl selection last year and has been named first-team All-Pro three times. He was also an important part of the Seattle Seahawks who won the Super Bowl after the 2013 season.
The 31-year-old finished last season with 49 tackles, two sacks, two interceptions and one fumble recovery.
