Regal Cinemas Closes Movie Theaters in the U.S., Including 9 Illinois Locations

CHICAGO (WLS) – Regal Cinema is set to hit the U.S. this weekend. Postponing all operations in, will affect nine locations in Illinois.

Regal is the second largest movie theater chain in the country. Due to the epidemic it is temporarily closing all of its 6,536 locations, months after they reopened.

The company said it would not return to the U.S. on Thursday. Plans to close its locations in and hundreds more will close in the UK. That means thousands of people will lose their jobs.

Nine Regal cinemas in Illinois will be affected:

Regal Bowlingbrook,
Regal City North 4DX and IMAX in Chicago
Regal Lake Zurich
Regal Molin,

Regal Webster Place in Chicago,
RPX in Regal Cantera and Warnville
Regal Crystal Lake Shopplace,
Regal Lincolnshire and IMAX
Regal Round Lake Beach

“There was no growth because there were no new movies,” said Chris Johnson, CEO of Classic Cinema. “I like people watching ‘Gonzalez’ and ‘Riders of the Lost Ark’ for the 100th time, it’s just a challenge.”

Classic Cinemas, located in Downer’s Grove, reopened its 11 theaters in Illinois and Wisconsin, before it became clear that they were spending more to open than to close them. The problem with Johnson, Regal and all the other movie theater tors operators is the New York market, which is closing.

The loss has prompted film companies to postpone their new releases, such as the latest James Bond movie, “No Time to Die.”

“I just sent a letter, really on Friday, that we’re going to open on November 13, because there were a few movies on the 13th and Bond would be 20 years old, and then five minutes later I got an announcement on the bond and I just perished. , ”Jones said.

Regal and Seanworld Corporation are the second largest movie-theater operators in the world and in the country.

The main theater chain is trying to keep their doors open and screen independent films and old movies.

Some Hollywood studios have also experimented with release online so that people can watch at home instead of going directly to theaters.
