During Microsoft’s recent Xbox showcase, Bloober Team, the studio behind Observer, Layers of fear and witch – revealed his next project, called The medium.
This unique horror title was one of the most interesting titles on display and uses a “dual reality” system, meaning the player is working on two completely different worlds at the same time. It is a truly innovative approach (a kind of real-time shot of the light and dark worlds seen in Zelda: Link to the past) but it seems like the Bloober Team has been working on this concept for quite some time, almost 10 years, actually.
In 2012, many video game sites received mysterious phone calls that played a recorded message asking:
Do you know Medium? If not, you will.
Inquiry at the time revealed that Blobber Team was behind the project-related domain, which was intended for release on Wii U, PlayStation 3, Vita, Xbox 360, PC, Android, and iOS. Even back then, the game was described as having a “whole new game model.” The domain that was listed at the time (medium-game.com) now redirects to the new game.
We imagined that the technology of the time was not up to the task of fulfilling the team’s ambition, but it would have been interesting to see Medium appear on Wii U anyway. Perhaps the concept of double reality could have been spread across the two screens?
Thanks to JTTS for the information!
