Queen Elizabeth II strips away Harvey Weinstein of royal honor

Queen Elizabeth has snatched Harvey Weinstein, the filmmaker imprisoned by the royal honorary commander of the British Empire’s highest order. Weinstein was awarded the “CBE” in 2004 for his contributions to the British film industry. In March of this year, Weinstein was sentenced by a New York City jury to 23 years in prison after convicting a former Hollywood mogul of a first-degree criminal sexual act and a third-degree rape.

The jailed filmmaker was named Commander of the Greatest Order of the British Empire in 2004.

Weinstein’s decision to remove CBE was announced at a UK outlet GazetteIs, which publishes legal notices. According to the proclamation, “The Queen has indicated that the appointment of Harvey Weinstein to remain as the Honorary Commander of the Civil Division of the Supreme Order of the British Empire on January 19, 2004 will be revoked and revoked and his name removed from the register of the above order.”

Although the Queen is technically responsible for granting and revoking such honors, such decisions are in the practice of being made by the Cabinet Office of the British Government.
