The PS5 will be the best gaming console ever created, if you listen to Epic Games. Previously, the company was effusive about the PS5’s Unreal Engine 5 demo, as well as its ambitious SSD, claiming that the PS5 could outperform most gaming PCs. Now Epic does it again, claiming that the PS5 is nothing less than “a masterpiece of system design.”
This particular news comes from the large number of PS5 from the official PlayStation magazine, which will be out tomorrow. Meanwhile, GamesRadar has shared some snippets of the post. Nick Penwarden, the vice president of Epic Games, had this to say about the upcoming Sony console:
“The PlayStation 5 is a masterpiece of system design. Not only is it driving a huge leap in computing and graphics performance, but it’s also revolutionary in terms of storage and data compression technology, unlocking new types of games and experiences for players to enjoy. “
Once again, the PS5’s SSD gets a lot of praise here, as it could result in entirely new games, according to Penwarden. Kim Libreri, CTO of Epic, also shared his thoughts:
“State-of-the-art graphics and processing power will not only make games more immersive, but will also enable entirely new game concepts that can take advantage of fully dynamic environments and lighting, much better physics, smarter artificial intelligence and multiplayer experiences richer. “
Both executives seem to think that the PS5 will be able to facilitate games that simply were not possible on previous consoles, perhaps even on gaming PCs. While we won’t know the full context of their dating until tomorrow, Epic seems especially interested in Sony’s next-generation machine.
Epic’s Unreal Engine is available on all modern platforms, and there is no indication that it works better on a PS5 than it does on an Xbox Series X or a powerful gaming PC. But Epic developers and executives have pointed to the PS5 over and over again when discussing improvements to the next-generation Unreal Engine. Perhaps they are right, after all, they have had practical time with the system, but it raises questions about what the PS5 can do, precisely, that competing systems cannot.
Regardless, the PS5 looks like an extremely powerful system, and we know that Fortnite, Epic’s source of cash, will be available on the platform. Epic was also in the unique position to showcase the first PS5 game, with its custom Lumen tech demo at Nanite Land. Granted, Lumen is not a real game, but if it were, it would look nice.
