PS5: Many pre-orders made in 12 hours as PS4 pre-orders in 12 weeks in the US

Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, says the PlayStation 5 demand seems “very significant” based on the number of pre-orders in the United States. Ryan spoke to Reuters on October 27 about consumer demand for the PS5 and said: “Demand has been very, very significant, expressed by the level of pre-orders.” Pre-sold, as were the first 12 week pre-orders for the PlayStation 4.

PS5 console first look, size comparison

While Ryan won’t talk to any specific numbers because he belongs to the PS5 ancestors, one can only guess that the number should be too high. The exact PS4 preorder numbers are not known, but we do know that by July 2013 it had surpassed 1 million pre-orders worldwide, four months before the console’s launch, and 1 million PS4s were sold in the first 24 hours of console launch. If PS4 pre-order numbers match the first 12 hours of PS4 pre-orders in the first 12 hours, we wouldn’t be surprised if the PS5 pre-order number in the US is close to or greater than 1 million.

RJ said it could come to an end that not everyone who wants to buy a PS5 on the day of launch will actually be able to find one to buy. According to Sony there will be more PS5s than PS4s at launch. He said Sony is “working as hard as we can” to get the PS5 on store shelves for holiday shopping at the end of the year. The CEO of SIE also told Reuters that it would grow its core portfolio of first-party studios and that Sony would expand its lineup “where we can strengthen our in-house capabilities through select M&A (mergers and acquisitions).”
