Proof of COVID-19 vaccination may be required to visit UK bars, cinemas

UK Vaccine Minister Nadeem Zahawi said on Monday that bars, cinemas and sports venues could force people to provide proof of Covid-19 vaccination before entering.

Zhawi clarified that vaccination should be voluntary, but businesses will be able to use the contact tracing phone application that may include the person’s vaccine status.

“I think you think restaurant restaurants and bars and theaters and other venues, sports venues, will probably use that system in what they’ve done with the app,” Zhao told the BBC.

He added: “The type of pressure will come both ways: from service providers – who will say ‘look, show us you’ve been vaccinated’ – but we’ll make the technology as simple and accessible as possible.”

Asked if he thinks anything is possible without the vaccine, he said, “People have to make a decision but I think you will find the way many service providers want to do this in the application. ”

Zhawi has been overseeing the country’s largest vaccination program for decades. His comments on the potential application came as the UK is currently evaluating two vaccines – one developed by Pfizer and Bioentech, the other by Oxford University and AstraZeneca – to see if they are safe and effective. The Guardian newspaper reported that hospitals have been told they can get the first dose of Pfizer on December 7, if approved.

British hospitals receive first coronavirus vaccination dose next week

Britain has ordered 40 million doses of the Pfizer / Bioentech vaccine, enough for 20 million people and 100 million doses of the Oxford / AstraZeneca vaccine.

The British government hopes that the combination of vaccines and group tests will eliminate the need for restrictions on trade and daily life, which were imposed to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Britain’s most devastating COVID-19 outbreak has occurred in Britain, with more than 57,000 confirmed virus-related deaths.
