Prince William Meghan and Harry call Royals ‘no racist family’ after interview

LONDON – Prince William on Thursday denied that Britain’s royal family was racist, accusing his brother, Prince Harry and Harry’s wife Meghan, later in a bombshell interview that a family member raised concerns about their child’s skin tone.

Asked by a reporter if the royal family was racist, Prince William said he was “not a very racist family” in the comments recorded and posted on social media.

He also said he has not spoken to Harry since the interview, which airs Monday evening in the United States and in Britain. “But I will,” he added.

Throughout the conversation, Harry called the British press racist and told Meghan that royal life had become so emotionally isolated that he was considering suicide. The allegations sparked a national debate around racism within the monarchy and within the presidency itself.

In the interview, Harry said his relationship with his brother is one of “space”.

“The whole royal family is sad,” the royal family said in an official response to an interview on Tuesday. The family said they were particularly concerned about the issue of racism raised by the couple, but said it would be dealt with privately. William’s comments during the public presentation were first made by family members.

The comments came as he and his wife Kate – also known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – visited a school in London this week after reopening schools in the country. It was their first public appearance since Harry and Meghan’s interview aired.

His visit, which focuses on mental health, was made in view of the launch of initiatives for mental health resources in schools.
