Prince Harry says his upbringing left him unaware of unconscious racial prejudice

In an interview with GQ Magazine, Harry spoke with Patrick Hutchinson, who was taken to safety for an injured white man during a Black Lives Matter protest in June.

The Duke of Sussex told Hutchinson that you cannot criticize people for showing unconscious prejudice, but once you realize that you have to educate yourself because ignorance is no longer an excuse.

Harry said, “From my understanding, after growing up and learning what I had, I don’t realize what it is. I don’t know if it exists,” Harry said.

“And then, sad to say, it took me many, many years to figure it out, especially after a day or a week of being in my wife’s shoes.”

Harry insisted that everyone needed to investigate their unconscious attitude towards the race.

“And I think one of the most dangerous things is people in power, whether it’s politics or the media, where you’re not aware of your own bias and you’re not aware of the culture of your system, then how do we progress? Should? ”He said.

Hutchins spoke of his frustration at the lack of understanding in some quarters about the Black Lives Matter and the fight against racism.

“There are a lot of people who either don’t think it exists or they don’t want change and they’re fighting it,” Hutchinson said. “And I don’t know what these people are afraid of, or are afraid of.”

Patrick Hutchinson came to fame in June, when the image of him taking a white man to safety went viral.

Speaking from his home in California, Harry said the timing of living in the U.S. is very interesting, but it shows that change needs to happen everywhere.

“It will really take each of us to change things and whoever pushes against it needs to keep a long and stern look at themselves in the mirror,” he said.

“This is a global movement. The train has left the station. If you’re not on it now, then get on it because we can do a lot. And since becoming my dad, the whole point of life, I believe, For me, trying to leave the world in a better place than when you got it. “

Earlier this month, Harry described his “awakening” to the existence of systemic racism, saying “the world we know has been created by whites for whites.”

Harry, who said he had recently recognized the full extent of racism in everyday life, told the UK’s Evening Standard newspaper: I thought I did, but I didn’t. “

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex Black History were talking to the paper earlier this month, marking every October in Britain.
