Prince Harry and Meghan will not return as executive members of the royal family

As a result, honorary military appointments and royal patrons held by the Duke and Duchess held by Sussex among the executive members of the political family will be revoked, the palace said in a statement.

The statement said, “The Queen has written confirming that it is not possible to move forward with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service, away from the work of the Royal Family.”

“While everyone is saddened by his decision, the Duke and Duchess have many dear members of the family,” Palace said.

The couple stepped down from official royal duties in January 2020 and moved to North America, a rare move for the senior Royals.

Since then, they’ve launched their own media ventures, and announced earlier this week that they’ll be attending an interview with Oprah Winfrey – her first sitting appearance since leaving London.

A spokesman for the couple said on Friday that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were “committed to their duty and service in the UK and around the world” and “continued to support the organizations that introduced them, regardless of their official role.”

The spokesman added, “We can all live a life of service. Service is ubiquitous.”

The announcement came just days after the couple announced they were expecting their second child.
Prince Philip, the Queen’s husband and Harry’s grandfather, is currently in a London hospital as a “precautionary measure” after experiencing discomfort.
