For a long time, all eyes were on Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, as they embarked on their new journey as husband and wife and began to perform royal duties. Meghan, who was once a successful actress, seemed to go perfectly into her new role, and fans all over the world were delighted to see her as a member of the royal family.
However, things did not go exactly as the couple had planned. The British tabloids were cruel to Meghan, and despite several requests to return and give the couple some privacy, it only got worse as time went on. The royal couple moved away from Kensington Palace, in London, and went to the Windsor countryside, where they hoped to raise their son in a peaceful environment.
They did not get the privacy they so desperately wanted, and in early 2020 made the surprising announcement that they would step down from royal duties.
Royal fans were shocked by Megxit
Most people probably did not even know that leaving the royal family was an option, but that is exactly what Meghan and Prince Harry decided to do. After months of being disappointed about how they were portrayed in the media, such as the lack of privacy that came along with royal life, the duke and duchess found that the dismissal from their roles was the best thing to do.
They went to Canada, and many fans assumed they would stay here, but Harry and Meghan soon packed up and moved to LA, California. Given that the city is where Meghan grew up, we can only imagine that she feels at home and is ecstatic to be there with her husband and baby Archie.
The couple has the added benefit of being close to Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, with whom they are thought to be extremely close.
The result of the royal split

Leaving the royal family was a bit more complicated than anyone thought it would be, and Meghan and Prince Harry had to make a few sacrifices before Megxit was finalized.
What did they have to do? Now, according to the Daily Mail, the couple is no longer allowed to use their HRH titles, which Harry had for his entire life, but was relatively new to Meghan.
If that was not enough, the duke and duchess were also required to repay the massive sum of taxpayer money they used to renovate their house in Windsor. And, in one of the toughest parts of the whole deal, Prince Harry had to give up all his military titles when leaving the family.
The couple was also required to provide public funding, and now that they live in the United States, they pay all of their security expenses out of pocket. However, Prince Harry’s father, Prince Charles, will continue to provide a portion of the couple’s income, which will undoubtedly ease the financial aspect of Megxit.

Now that Megxit is official, did it come out just like Meghan and Prince Harry had hoped? Not so much. Our Weekly reports that Megxit’s dream of the couple would have given her the best of both worlds, and that’s not the way things are stretched.
So, what had they proposed? Apparently, the couple did not intend to give up royal duties completely and leave their positions completely. According to the new book, Find freedom: “He and Meghan did not want to leave the monarchy completely. Rather, they wanted to find a happy place in it. Fans can only hope that Meghan and Harry find happiness in their new journey independent of the royal family.
