President Trump has thrown a curved ball at the New York Yankees, saying he decided not to throw a first pitch in a game next month.
Trump left the door open to possibly do so later in the season.
“Due to my strong focus on the China Virus, including scheduled meetings on Vaccines, our economy, and much more, I will not be able to be in New York to launch the opening launch of @Yankees on August 15th. We will do it later in the season! Trump tweeted.
The president would have thrown the opening pitch when the Boston Red Sox played the Yankees on that date. Legendary Yankees reliever Mariano Rivera was in the White House when Trump made the announcement about his plans, which would have been his first time as president.
Dr. Anthony Fauci launched the traditional opening day presentation in Washington, DC last week. He missed home plate for a mile. The first pitch in Washington is traditionally served by the President-in-Office, but Trump may have fond memories of attending the Nationals game during the 2019 World Series, when he was booed.
Bronx County President Ruben Diaz Jr. was already recorded in Trump’s appearance on August 15. He accused the Yankees of giving Trump a platform, whom he called a “white supremacist.”
