It’s confirmed: Oracle was the cloud infrastructure provider of choice to secure Zoom’s video conferencing platform. The partnership began design in mid-March, as revealed by Clay Magouyrk, executive vice president of engineering for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, at an online press conference this afternoon.

The same official guaranteed that the agreement will not only serve to respond to possible increased demand at the current time of the pandemic, but should extend “for many years.” The possibility of resorting to Oracle’s autonomous functionalities is also being considered.

“We have recently experienced the most significant growth our business has seen in recent years, requiring massive increases in our serviceability. We explored multiple platforms and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure was instrumental in helping us scale rapidly, ”said Eric S. Yuan, CEO of Zoom, in the press release.

“Performance, scalability, reliability and superior security in the cloud” were aspects that contributed to the choice, stressed the person in charge.

Those capabilities and the location of the data centers appear to have placed Oracle in a prominent position to immediately facilitate Zoom’s expansion. According to the companies, a few hours after the partnership began, Oracle was already securing simultaneous sessions for hundreds of thousands of users of the video platform.

Currently, and according to Zoom data, more than seven petabytes per day are already transferred through Oracle’s cloud servers, equivalent to 93 years of HD video.
