The two young men “were childhood friends and were on top of the well when the lid, a concrete slab, broke and caused the well to fall into the well with a depth of about 20 meters,” the Lusa news agency said. The young woman was transferred to the Hospital das Caldas da Rainha, with minor injuries.
The mortal victim, a 19-year-old young man, “was submerged about two meters deep and under the broken slab,” which, according to Marco Martins, forced a rescue operation that lasted until around 4:40 p.m. which involves two divers and the use of pumps to extract water.
There were 18 vehicles and 36 members of the Bombarral, Óbidos and Peniche corporations, the GNR and a team of psychologists from the National Institute of Medical Emergencies (INEM), who provided psychological support to the relatives.
