Three Portuguese corners, Madeira, Lisbon and the Algarve, were distinguished in the 2020 edition of the World Travel Awards as the best destinations in the world, taking the lead in different categories. However, Portugal did not reach the “tetra” in the most requested category: Best World Tourist Destination.

Madeira is once again considered the Best Island Destination in the World, and appears next to Lisbon, which is chosen as the Best City Break Destination (short stays) in the World and, finally, the Algarve, which is ranked as the Best Beach Destination in the world.

In total, 14 distinctions were attributed to the country -three more than in 2019-, which include not only destinations but also some tourism businesses. L’AND Vineyards won the Hotel division of Região Vinícola and, at the top of the Luxury and Leisure hotels, was Conrad Algarve. Dunas Douradas Beach Club is the leader among golf villas and resorts.

TAP is classified as the Best Airline in the World, in the categories of destination to Africa and South America, and the magazine that the Portuguese airline delivers on its flights is also considered the best in the world in this edition.

The company that is the world queen of conservation in 2020 is Parques de Sintra – Monte da Lua and the best adventure tourist attraction is Passadiços do Paiva. Dark Sky Alqueva has become the best Tourism Development project.

In 2016 Portugal had won four awards, a number that increased to seven in 2017, in 2018 there were 16 awards and last year that number was reduced to 11.

The information was released by the office of the Minister of State, Economy and Digital Transition, and comes with a thank you note from the Secretary of State for Tourism, Rita Marques: “We show the world that we are a safe country, ready for everyone, when possible. Many thanks to all the Portuguese, who contributed so that Portugal continues to be among the best, “he says, while congratulating the country for, in a context of great limitations caused by the pandemic crisis, having preserved” the reputation and notoriety of our Destinations “.

Considered the ‘Oscars’ of tourism, the World Travel Awards have been awarded annually, since 1993, by industry professionals worldwide, distinguishing the work carried out in the tourism industry in order to stimulate the competitiveness and quality of tourism, explains the same. Note.
