Woman who abandoned baby in Cacém is free

The mother of the baby who left the Baptist Social Center in Cacém, Sintra on Tuesday, was established as a defendant, a source from the PSP told Lusa.

According to a source from the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the PSP, the pediatric services of the Amadora-Sintra Hospital contacted the Cacém police station this Friday afternoon, informing that a woman was there claiming to be the mother of the baby who it was dropped off by 11 pm Tuesday at the Baptist Social Center.

The same source added that the PSP’s Sintra criminal investigation teams were immediately activated, transferring the woman to the Cacém police station.

“I contacted the Public Ministry and some steps were taken, the term of identity and residence was decreed the accused, “the source said.

On Wednesday, a PSP source told Lusa that it was the employees of the Social Center who alerted authorities after hearing the newborn boy cry at his door.

According to the same source, the baby “was in good health”, but was transferred to the Fernando da Fonseca Hospital, in Amadora, having been contacted by the National Commission for the Promotion of the Rights and Protection of Children and Youth ( CPCJ) and the Santa Casa da Misericórdia.

The Baptista Social Center (CSB) is a Foundation created by the Evangelical Baptist Church of Cacém to serve the community.
