At the event, the Mayor of Viana do Castelo, the Captain of the Captaincy and the Councilor for the Environment thanked the lifeguards and the direction of the Decimal Coordination for the work carried out on the beaches of Viana do Castelo, highlighting the 960 hours of surveillance and the 16 thousand kilometers traveled by the two support vehicles.

During the bathing season, 229 incidents were recorded and no fatalities were reported. 125 occurrences were recorded in practitioners of nautical activities and first aid maneuvers were performed in 113 occurrences among vacationers.

There was a need to carry out hospital evacuation in 52 cases, promoting 14 aid on public roads. Lifeguards have carried out 23 aquatic rescues in more than three months. The results obtained revealed an important work of prevention, training, dedication and awareness of the community by the rescuers.

The lifeguards were in charge of the surveillance of 24 kilometers of coastline, ensuring the safety of 13 guarded beaches and 40 corners.

Once again, the Viana do Castelo City Council displayed 8 blue flags on the beaches of Afife, Arda, Paçô, Carreço, Norte, Cabedelo, Amorosa and Castelo do Neiva
