Will Apple have on the horizon the launch of 4 models of the iPhone 12?

After the apparent success of the latest model. low costThe iPhone SE, which has received praise from several technology-focused websites, is now turning its attention to the successor to the iPhone 11. With new features on the way, especially in the field of photography and AR, due to the possible Inclusion of the LiDAR sensor, there are now some leaks in relation to the new models.

With the months counting, Apple should have already thought more than the menu for this year when it comes to iPhones 2020.

More models for iPhone?

Apple is known for its philosophy of simplicity, of facilitating customer choice. In that sense, in recent years, the company has only had one annual launch of iPhones. In addition, these releases were with few models (only in 2017 we began to verify the simultaneous presentation of 3 different models, with the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X).

This policy follows the opposite of the competition of Android, which, due to the variety of brands and the fiercest market, is forced to constantly renew its offer. However, this approach may change this year.

According to the latest information from Jon Prosser, known YouTuber and dripperApple will be able to move forward this year with the introduction of four new models of the iPhone 12. Instead of just having a "entry-level" model, similar to what has happened in the last two years (iPhone XR and iPhone 11), this Once we can have two models: one of 5.4 "and another of 6.1".

This offer can make a lot of sense, as there is more than a proven market for smaller screens. Until now, this smaller size was limited to XS / Pro models, both with values above one thousand euros.

On the Pro side, we should also see two screen sizes, in this case 6.1 "and 6.7". In other words, we will have larger screens in the Pro line compared to the current ones (5.8 "and 6.5"), and in the baseline we will have a 5.4 "model (slightly lower than the screen present in the 11 Pro today) and others 6.1 "(currently available on model 11).

Goodbye LCD? Goodbye Samsung?

Rumors are also circulating that, this time, all models in the iPhone 12 line can be launched with OLED technology. Therefore, this would be a novelty in contrast to what happened with the basic models (XR and 11), which were launched with LCD technology. In the pipeline there may also be a new partnership between Apple and a different manufacturer for its displays.

Currently, it is Samsung that is supplying Apple with its OLED displays for iPhone, but Apple may now be in negotiations with BOE Display, a China-based company that is among the top display manufacturers worldwide.

BOE Display became known in 2018 for introducing its flexible OLED displays and for having recently entered into an agreement with Qualcomm. Under the principles of this agreement, the American chip giant will integrate its fingerprint sensors under BOE's flexible AMOLED displays.

A new pricing philosophy?

Also, according to Jon Prosser, prices for new iPhone models are expected to start at $ 649, for the iPhone 12 at 5.4 ", at $ 749 on the 6.1" model, while on Pro models we will find prices of $ 999 and $ 1099 for the 6.1 "and 6.7" models, respectively.

Apple may be renegotiating component values. In this sense (and where the aforementioned association with BOE Display can play an important role), if true, we will once again witness a drop in the price of the entry-level model (the iPhone XR launched at $ 749 and the iPhone $ 11 to $ 699). Therefore, this "move" may be completely countercyclical to what has happened to Android's main competitors.

We also see that Apple may have a model to fight on all price fronts. Therefore, the brand will present from competitive mid-range models (with its SE), to the best in the range (with the iPhone 12).

iPhone 11 could be an asset when it comes to pricing

It remains to be seen whether the iPhone 11 will be discontinued or suffer a significant price drop. Being difficult to predict, this last option would make sense, because if Apple eliminates the XR, it could put 11 in the bar of $ 549. Therefore, we would be talking about an offer with an excellent quality / price ratio for all those who want stay or start in the Apple ecosystem.

However, it should be noted that all prices in the US USA They refer to values before taxes. This is because, contrary to what happens in Portugal, for example, where there is a single rate of 23% nationwide in this type of equipment, in the United States each State has its tax rate, so Therefore, the values are always shown before taxes.

For now, what appears to be guaranteed is that a real price war is looming in the high-end smartphone market.
